Brainerd beats Grand Rapids in marathon match

Game features 34 hits, five home runs and eight pitchers

Brainerd’s Kevin Peterson put an exclamation point on Friday’s three-plus hour marathon with a two-out, two-run homer to right-center, giving the Warriors their fifth straight win.

Brainerd and Grand Rapids combined for 34 hits, including five home runs, six doubles and two triples. They combined to throw eight pitchers, commit five errors, walk 13 and hit four batters.

Brainerd trailed 2-0, tied it 2-2, then trailed 8-2, 8-5, 10-5, 10-8 and 13-8. Then the Warriors scored 11 times in the fifth to take a 19-13 lead.
