Eagles win own tournament

APPLE VALLEY 6, BROOKINGS (S.D.) 4: Chris Goodman doubled home the go-ahead run and scored an insurance run in the top of the eighth inning as the Eagles won the championship of their own tournament. Apple Valley tied the score at four on a two-run double Aaron Gretz in the sixth. Goodman and Garrett Ganskie each went 3-for-4 for the Eagles. Ganskie also drove in two runs.

BENILDE-ST. MARGARET’S 14, BRECK 12: Jimmy Heck had three hits, scored twice and drove in two runs as the Red Knights outlasted the Mustangs in a marathon third-place game of the Apple Valley tournament. Benilde-St. Margaret’s built a quick 7-0 lead. Shayne Cernia had two hits, including a home run, and four RBI for the Mustangs.

ST. FRANCIS 9-5, DULUTH CENTRAL 7-0: The Saints’ Andy Julkowski and Lucas Niemeyer wish the Trojans would come to town more often. Julkowski, a junior, went 3-for-3, including two doubles, and drove in five runs in the opener and added two more RBI in the nightcap. Niemeyer, a freshman, hurled a six-hit shutout in the second game.
