Senior does it all for the Sabres

Marty Lenzmeier

Shakopee senior Marty Lenzmeier is making his rounds around the diamond.

Lenzmeier plays first and third base as well as pitches for the Sabres baseball team. He was a center on the school’s Missota Conference championship football team in the fall. Here is a closer look at Lenzmeier:

Best movie I’ve seen in the past year: Too many to say just one.

Three songs I never skip on my iPod are … “On My Level” by Wiz Khalifa; “21 Questions” by 50 Cent; any song by Notorious B.I.G.

How do you balance school and sports during the year? Hanging out ... and just relaxing away from distractions, and not having to worry about anything other then what kind of fruit snacks I want to eat.

How did you get started in sports? I tried them when I was younger and just stuck with them.

Who is your school’s biggest rival? Prior Lake.

At my first varsity practice, I felt … nervous but relaxed at the same time because I had worked out with all the upperclassmen during the summer and knew them pretty well.

What is your most memorable moment as a high school athlete? Hanging out with the baseball team at the Foreman household every Friday and Saturday night. Winning the Missota Conference in football.

What are your goals for the baseball season? Win the (Missota) conference.

To get focused for a game, I … listen to my iPod and then joke around with my teammates to stay relaxed.

I know I have an edge on an opponent when … I’m beating him every play of the game and having fun!

What has been your bat of choice over the years, and why? Did you change to a different company for a bat just for this season? My favorite brand of bat is DeMarini because it seems like the bats have so much pop to them and it just has that feel to it. I have used DeMarini for the past two seasons, and I have liked my success with it.

What is your favorite high school baseball park to play at, and why? My favorite park to play at is Joe Schleper Stadium because it is our home field and I know that people will always come to the game — students, parents and adults, even though they might have no relation to anyone on the team.

If you could change one thing about high school sports, what would it be? Allow fights in hockey games. It would make them 10 times more entertaining.

When you have time off during vacation, what do you like to do? Hang out ... and relaxing with the guys.

Who is your favorite college or pro sports team and why? The Minnesota Twins. Everyone has to love the Twins if your from Minnesota. It’s in your blood!

In 10 years, I hope I’m … working a fulltime job and coaching.
