Lakeville South gets help in a pinch

LAKEVILLE SOUTH 2, EDINA 1: Pinch-hitter Derek Buermann’s single over a drawn infield in the bottom of the seventh inning plated the winning run, giving the Cougars a nonconference victory over the Hornets on Thursday. Winning pitcher junior Will Lundquist threw a three-hitter while going the distance.

CRETIN-DERHAM HALL 5, STILLWATER 3: The Class 3A, No. 4 Raiders earned their first victory of the year, beating the No. 5 Ponies in the Suburban East. Senior third baseman Chris Keys hit a two-run home run in the first, and senior outfielder Bob Kinne delivered a two-run double in the second for the Raiders (1-3).

EDEN PRAIRIE 7, ROSEMOUNT 2: The defending Class 3A state champion Eagles rebounded from their first loss of the season to beat the Irish in nonconference play. Lance Thonvold and Danny Blasy both were 2-for-4 at the plate. Thonvold had a triple and two RBI while Blasy had a double and solo home run.

PRIOR LAKE 3, HOPKINS 1: Winning pitcher Ryan Mestnik and Topher Rose, who picked up a save, combined on a three-hitter as the Lakers beat the Royals in a nonconference matchup. Rose also went 2-for-2 at the plate with a double.
