May 10: The Ponies will rekindle their rivalry with the Rangers in what's likely to be a pitching duel.

Stillwater's first meeting of the season with Suburban East Conference foe Forest Lake ended in dramatic fashion.

The teams were locked in a scoreless battle going into the top of the seventh inning in their April 20 showdown. The Rangers' Luke Wallner had pitched six scoreless innings, matching the Ponies' Will Frisch. An injury forced Wallner from the game and Stillwater took advantage, scratching across two runs for the road win and the lead in the league standings.

Forest Lake, ranked No. 8 in Class 4A in the coaches' poll, travels to No. 4-4A Stillwater on Wednesday, giving the Rangers a shot to get the league lead back with a win. The teams are tied atop the standings at 8-2 in conference play, while the field trails by at least two games.

This rivalry has been tight in the last decade, with Forest Lake holding a 10-8 record against Stillwater. Indications are that the teams are set for another close battle in this series Ponies coach Mike Evans said features the two best teams east of the Twin Cities.

It also includes two coaches who know one another well, as Evans was coached by Forest Lake's Tal Gravelle.

With so many interesting storylines, and plenty at stake in the conference title race, this crucial contest between Stillwater and Forest Lake is our Top Game of the Week.
