State tournament brackets released

Wayzata, Mahtomedi, Belle Plaine and Parkers Prairie each received the top seed in their respective classes for the state baseball tournament, which begins June 16.

The Trojans, who were No. 2 in the final Class 4A state rankings provided by Let's Play Baseball, won the Lake Conference title with a 7-1 mark and finished the regular season 16-3, losing only to Edina, Minnetonka and fellow Class 4A state participant Maple Grove. Wayzata went undefeated in the playoffs, clinched the section championship by beating St. Louis Park 9-3.

In Class 3A, the Zephyrs also went undefeated in the playoffs, shutting out Fridley 5-0 to secure the Section 4 title. Mahtomedi finished the regular season atop the coaches' poll and posted a 16-5 record that included two victories over Class 3A state participant and Metro East Conference rival Henry Sibley. Those wins helped propel the Zephyrs to the league championship with a 12-4 record.

Northfield nabbed the No. 2 seed in Class 3A, followed by No. 3 Benilde-St. Margaret's, No. 4 Little Falls and No. 5 Rocori. The Class 3A bracket, as well as state tournament news and game updates, can be found by clicking here.

Belle Plaine is making its first state tournament appearance, and the Tigers are doing it as the top seed in the Class 2A bracket. Belle Plaine went 19-1 in the regular season, losing only to Minnesota River Conference foe Sibley East and finishing as league champion with an 11-1 mark. The No. 1-2A Tigers started the year defeating Class 2A state participant Minnehaha Academy and continued rolling in the playoffs, shutting out three of their first four opponents before eking out a 6-5 victory over Fairmont in the Section 2 title game.

Minnehaha Academy is the No. 2 seed, Pierz is No. 3, Maple Lake No. 4 and Proctor No. 5 in the Class 2A tournament. Click to visit the Class 2A state tournament page, which includes the full bracket.

Parkers Prairie is also making its first trip to state after going undefeated in the Class 1A, Section 6 tournament, including a 5-4 victory over West Central Area in the championship game. The Panthers received the No. 1 seed in the state bracket due in part to their 15-2 regular-season record. One of those losses was to Ottertail Central in Park Region Conference play and resulted in the teams tying atop the final league standings with 10-2 records.
