Perham wasn’t pretty, but the Yellowjackets didn’t need to be, getting timely offense and clutch pitching from junior Austin Erickson to defeat Watertown-Mayer 5-3 and advance to Monday’s Class 2A championship game against Kasson-Mantorville.
Erickson bounced back from getting hit in the face with a foul ball to pitch a complete game, surrendering nine hits and three runs without walking a batter. Watertown-Mayer, which was just 9-7 in the regular season, fell to 17-9.
