Thursday's baseball roundup: Burnsville nips Eastview in section tournament

Burnsville took advantage of four walks in the fourth inning to score the game’s only runs


Minnehaha Academy beat St. Paul Academy 2-1 in their Section 4AA quarterfinal baseball playoff game. Minnehaha Academy pitcher John Pryor struck out 11 St. Paul Academy batters.

CLASS 3A

• SECTION 3: Burnsville took advantage of four walks in the fourth inning to score the game’s only runs in a 2-0 victory over Eastview in the semifinals. Gopher recruit Tyler Hanson threw the two-hit shutout. The game was suspended in the fourth inning on Wednesday, but Hanson came back Thursday to finish what he started. He struck out six and walked one. The Lightning are the defending state champion. … Senior outfielder Brandon Morgan went 2-for-3 with two RBI, leading Lakeville North past St. Thomas Academy 5-2. Senior Jordan Jacobson pitched 4? scoreless innings for Lakeville North when the game was suspended in the fourth inning on Wednesday with the Panthers leading 3-0. He allowed four hits.

• SECTION 6: Senior Zach Munsterman threw a three-hit shutout as Armstrong eliminated Benilde-St. Margaret’s 5-0 in a losers’ bracket matchup. Senior Brady Johnson had two hits and two RBI to lead the Falcons at the plate.

CLASS 2A

• SECTION 4: John Pryor of Minnehaha Academy continued his stellar senior season. The lefthander pitched the Redhawks to a 2-1 victory over St. Paul Academy in the semifinals. He struck out 11. Sophomore Ford Schroeder scored both runs for the Redhawks. St. Paul Academy senior Matt Fiedler was the tough-luck loser. He only allowed one hit while striking out eight.
