Quarterfinals: 10 a.m. Friday at Midway Stadium, St. Paul

Eden Prairie's two runs in the first inning were all the offensive support starting pitcher Cameron Mingo would need.

The righthander threw a complete game shutout, giving up just three hits in Eden Prairie's 4-0 victory over Hopkins in the quarterfinals of the Class 3A state baseball tournament at Midway Stadium.

Defense was the difference with two top pitchers on the mound. Mingo's defense saved his shutout in the first inning by throwing out a Hopkins runner at home and went on to play an errorless seven innings.

Hopkins (18-7) made two errors, one leading to an unearned run.

Jordan Smith and Brett Guba scored all four runs for the Eagles (15-10). And Miles Nablo contributed two hits and an RBI.

Joey Brettingen had two of Hopkins three hits.

Eden Prairie advances to today's 3 p.m. semifinal game against Bemidji.

Three Stars

Cameron Mingo, Eden Prairie- Mingo allowed only three hits in seven innings of work and retired eleven batters in a row before issuing a walk in the 6th inning.  Cameron's complete game and shutout performance has led the Eagles to the AAA semi-finals Friday afternoon at Midway Stadium.

Jordan Smith, Eden Prairie- Jordan's first inning double sparked the two run first inning and the Eagles never looked back.  His strong defensive play in center field was highlighted with a diving catch to his left in the fourth to end the inning.

Derek Soderberg, Eden Prairie- Soderberg was very active in the middle infield Friday morning,  turning two double plays and completing all other ground ball tests.
