New 3A schedule has all quarterfinal and semifinal games on Friday

All first-round games in Class 3A in St. Paul were postponed until Friday after rain and lightning throughout Thursday morning and into the afternoon delayed scheduled quarterfinal games in Chaska and St. Cloud as well.

A new Class 3A schedule has quarterfinal games set for 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Friday at Midway Stadium and Dunning Field, both in St. Paul. Semifinal games were set for 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

In Class 1A in Chaska, Browerville defeated Kenyon-Wanamingo 1-0 in a game that started nearly four hours after its scheduled 10 a.m. start.

After the game, rain and lightning resumed, raising questions about whether more games would be played on Thursday.

At Midway Stadium in St. Paul, where Class 3A games were scheduled, Kevin Merkle of the Minnesota State High School League had been hopeful at least two of the four scheduled games could be played after morning showers postponed the 10 a.m. game between Hopkins and Eden Prairie, but said an afternoon shower would likely wash out the first day completely.

In St. Cloud, the times for the Class 2A baseball state tournament quarterfinals were moved back to Thursday afternoon and evening.

The upper-bracket quarterfinals will be played at Dick Putz Field as originally planned. The first game between Holy Family and Cannon Falls, originally scheduled for 10 a.m., will be played at 3 p.m., followed by Roseau vs. Fairmont at 5:30 p.m.

The two lower-bracket quarterfinals, Proctor vs. Minneapolis Washburn and St. Cloud Cathedral vs. Delano, will be played simultaneously at 8 p.m., with Proctor/Mpls. Washburn taking place at Joe Faber Field and Cathedral/Delano at Dick Putz Field.
