For the second time this season, a single team threw back-to-back no-hitters, this time achieved by St. Anthony.

For the second time this season, a single team threw back-to-back no-hitters, this time achieved by St. Anthony.

On Wednesday, sophomore Zach Siggelkow tossed the second of the no-hitters in a 3-0 first-round, Class 2A, Section 4 playoff victory over Minneapolis Roosevelt.

Two days earlier in the team's season finale, Jordan Wiggins no-hit Fridley in another 3-0 victory.

"I might have thought it was some type of record if I didn't know Eden Prairie had done it earlier this year," St. Anthony coach Troy Urdahl said. "I have not been part of too many no-hitters, let alone in back-to-back games."

The Huskies' impressive pitching run actually began a game before Wiggins' feat. Junior Mike Hankner threw a shutout on May 19, beginning a string of 21 scoreless innings.

"[A no-hitter] in itself is relatively rare," Minnesota State High School League associate director Kevin Merkle said. "And two different pitchers able to throw a no-hitter two games in row and twice in season is really rare."
