Noting the plethora of youth baseball players who use the West Lutheran diamond as a practice haven during the spring and summer months, the high school submitted a grant proposal to the Twins Field for Kids program in March. Word came earlier this month the Twins Community Fund awarded West Lutheran a $1,400 matching grant for field improvements.

The field, used by West Lutheran varsity and junior varsity programs in addition to the Plymouth/Wayzata Youth Baseball Association, will receive upgrades to its fence and batter's box with the grant money. New bases and a protective tarp for the pitcher's mound also will come its way.

A larger field improvement program is expected in the coming years.

The Warriors are the No. 1 seed in the Class 1A, Section 4 tournament. They begin play on Friday at home.
