Barone goes the distance again versus Knights.

For the second time in five days, Marcus Barone tossed a complete-game victory over Irondale as Benilde-St. Margaret's claimed a 10-2 win over the Knights.

Friday, Barone needed just 83 pitches en route to a four-hit shutout. The second time around, he tossed a three hitter, two of which were back-to-back singles in the third inning.

The second time was not the charm for Irondale pitcher Ted Wiedman as the Red Knights, who managed just two runs and seven hits off the lefty Friday, reached him for 10 runs on 13 hits.

Irondale took a 1-0 lead in the first inning with an unearned run, which BSM got back in the second as Jack McGinn led off the inning with a single, moved to second on Barone's sacrifice bunt and scored on back-to-back singles by John Backes and Robby Sutherland.

The Red Knights broke the game open with a four-run third inning, which got started with a one-out walk to Jimmy Heck. Gabe MacDonald doubled him home and, one out later, Barone singled up the middle to drive in courtesy runner Andrew Murnane. Backes followed with a single to right field and Sutherland tripled off the left-field fence to drive in two more runs.

Irondale scored a run in the third but Backes got a pair of fly outs to get out of the inning and he went on to retire 14 of the final 16 batters he faced.

Meanwhile, BSM put the game away with a five-run fifth inning. McGinn again began the rally, leading off with a walk, and Barone again sacrificed him to second base. Keaton Studsrud's sacrifice fly brought in McGinn and Dan Labosky, Joe Melles and Heck all singled in runs, with Heck driving in the final two runs of the game.

Sutherland went 3-for-3 with three RBI to lead the Red Knights offense, which saw eight of nine starters collect hits. Labosky also had three hits, all infield singles, and Backes had two hits and reached base in all four of his at bats with a pair of walks.

Meanwhile, Barone's three-hitter featured two walks and five strikeouts in a 94-pitch outing.
