In 18 years on Eden Prairie's baseball bench, coach Mike Halloran has seen plenty. But until last week, the soon-to-be-retired coach had never witnessed back-to-back no-hitters.
That changed when Miles Nablo shut down Wayzata on Wednesday and Jordan Smith blanked Prior Lake a day later.
"It's early in the season, so we were pretty concerned about pitch counts," Halloran said. "But obviously it was a pretty neat thing to see. There's a lot of luck involved in something like that -- and we had it -- but those guys were in control."
Nablo benefitted from two diving catches by center fielder Logan Borg in his no-hitter. Smith, in his first start of the season, needed fewer than 80 pitches to accomplish his feat.
"A lot of fun for everyone involved," Halloran said.
Halloran has announced this will be his last season at Eden Prairie.
