Red Knight co-captain earns first metro honor for his career

After picking up his first win of the season, Thursday, on the mound and hitting a game-winning homerun two days later, Benilde-St. Margaret's senior co-captain Jimmy Heck was selected as a Minneapolis StarTribune athlete of the week.

Thursday, Heck needed just 89 pitches to toss a complete-game, five-hitter in a 5-0 win at St. Francis. He walked one and struckout 10 in the victory. He backed that pitching performance by going 3-for-4 at the plate.

Saturday, he followed with a 4-for-4 hitting performance, hitting a game-winning, three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning in a 10-8 win over Wayzata.

On the season he's batting .591 (13 for 22) with a .654 on-base percentage. He has scored 10 runs and drive in seven more. He has a 1-0 record and a 2.69 ERA in three pitching appearances, striking out 18 batters in 13.0 innings.
