Sixth-inning, three-run homer provides winning margin for Red Knights.

Jimmy Heck capped a four-for-four performance at the plate with a three-run home run in the sixth inning as Benilde-St. Margaret's overcame an eight-run sixth-inning rally by Wayzata for a 10-8 victory.

Two days after tossing a five-hit, complete-game shut, Heck put the Red Knights on his shoulders after his fielding error helped lead to Wayzata's sixth-inning rally.

After Grant Besse led off the bottom of the sixth inning by getting hit with a pitch for the second time on the day, Joe Melles followed with a single through the left side before Heck took an 0-1 pitch from Jack Slayton deep to left-center field for his first home run of the season.

Through five innings, BSM dominated the game, scoring seven runs in the first three innings, capping that outburst with a three-run home run from John Backes in the third inning.

Meanwhile, Marcus Barone cruised through the first five innings, allowing just two hits while throwing just 59 pitches. However, he was unable to escape the sixth inning, in which he was charged with six unearned runs. Mike Fecho's three-run double tied the score at 7-7 and Jake Steinbach followed with an RBI single to give the Trojans the lead.

The Red Knights got two runs in each of the first two innings, putting together a two-out rally in the first when Melles walked, Heck singled and Gabe MacDonald doubled both home.

In the second inning, Barone doubled with one out and Keaton Studsrud followed with a walk. Robby Sutherland's RBI single ended the day for Trojan starter Sam Sorenson and Besse greeted relief pitcher Kenzie Vold with an RBI single.

The win gives BSM a 5-1 record on the season heading into a three-game week which sees the Red Knights at Spring Lake Park, Tuesday, for a 4:15 game, before beginning a five-game homestand with a 4:15 p.m. game, Thursday, versus St. Louis Park and an 11 a.m. game, Saturday, with Orono.
