For the fourth time in his athletic career at Benilde-St. Margaret's, and the first time as a baseball player, Grant Besse has been named a Metro area athlete of the week, earning the honor from the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
The junior catcher/third baseman was 5-for-12 with seven runs batted in, including a career-high 3-for-5 performance with five RBI in a 16-6 victory over Fridley. In a 14-9 victory at Cooper, he had a sacrifice bunt that moved the tying and winning runs into scoring position in the seventh inning.
He capped off his week by going 2-for-4 with two RBI in an extra-inning loss to ninth-ranked Hopkins, Saturday.
For Besse, the baseball season began two days after scoring five goals in the Class 2A championship hockey game.
