Heck accounts for five runs to pace BSM offense

The two through five hitters for Benilde-St. Margaret's each had two hits and the quartet led the Red Knights to a 12-0 win in five innings over North Branch in the 2012 season opener for both teams.

Joe Melles helped establish BSM's offense in the first inning following a one-out single by Dan Labosky. Despite falling behind in the count, 0-2, Melles fouled off six pitches and ended a 12-pitch at bat with an RBI single to center field and Jimmy Heck followed with a triple to spark a three-run first inning.

The Red Knights scored six times in the second inning, using six hits, a hit batsmen and three Viking errors as BSM sent 12 batters to the plate to put the game away early.

White the Red Knights' hitting were busy putting together 12 runs in the first three innings, Marcus Barone was busy mowing down North Branch hitters.

The BSM senior allowed just one hit over four innings of work while walking one and striking out five before giving way to Heck in the fifth, who walked one and struck out two to complete the shutout.
