Marshall shortstop gives verbal commitment to play college baseball at SMSU

MARSHALL - After hearing offers for both baseball and football, Marshall senior Mason Schnaible has picked his home for his collegiate athletic career. And he'll only have to cross Highway 23 to get there.

On Wednesday, Schnaible verbally committed to play baseball at Southwest Minnesota State for the 2013 season. Schnaible said he had contact with fellow Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference schools Augustana and St. Cloud State, but ultimately decided to stay at home.

"I just want to stay around Marshall," Schnaible said. "I know they have a good program here and I'm excited to play for Coach (Paul) Blanchard. I've always grown up in Marshall, the program's great and (Blanchard's) a great guy."
