Top performer winner

Louis HertlingAnoka. At 6-foot-4, 220 pounds, Hertling is a commanding presence on the mound. He's got a 0.93 ERA in 22 2/3 innings this season. That was aided by a complete game, three-hit shutout in a 3-0 win May 11 vs. Rogers. He struck out 11 and walked none in his second straight shutout.

Top performer candidates

Dominic Adkins, St. Agnes. The Aggies are 13-1 this season thanks in part to Adkins. The senior outfielder is committed to the University of St. Thomas and the Tommies have to like what they're seeing. Last week, Adkins went 11-for-15 with 10 runs scored, four RBIs and a home run.

Cal Schmelzle, Lakeville North. Schmelzle has shut out four of five opponents faced this season. The junior pitcher had perhaps his best outing in a 7-0 win May 11 vs. Eagan. Schmelzle tossed a complete game, three-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts and no walks. He helped his cause going 1-for-2 with a run and was hit by a pitch. Last week in three games, Schmelzle went 4-for-8 with a triple, RBI and two walks.

Evan NelsonHastings. Nelson was tough for opposing pitching to slow down last week. In five games, the junior helped the Raiders to a 4-1 record going 9-for-16 with a double and six RBIs. He had three triples, all in a 9-0 win May 12 vs. Tartan. Nelson homered and drove in four runs in a 14-1 win May 12 at Hill-Murray.

Brayden CarlsonBarnum. Carlson was instrumental in the Bombers' 11-0 win May 10 at McGregor. The junior spun a six-inning complete game with one hit and one walk to go with seven strikeouts. Carlson went 2-for-4 at the plate with two doubles, four RBIs and a run scored.
