Mounds View starting pitcher Drew Rogers found himself just one out away from complete-game win when Mustang coach Nik Anderson emerged from the dugout and headed out to visit with Rogers.

“I asked him what he was doing here,” Rogers said. “We chatted, and I told him I could get this next batter out in three pitches.”

Rogers did not quite meet his promise. He got the last batter out, but it took a few more pitches than three. Regardless, Rogers finished off the game with an infield pop out as he picked up the complete-game win over Suburban East Conference rival Stillwater, 8-1, on Friday at First National Bank of River Falls Field in River Falls, Wisconsin.

First Report

Mounds View hit a pair of home runs in the first two innings of Friday’s game and never looked back as the Mustangs rolled past Suburban East Conference rival Stillwater, 8-1, on Friday at First National Bank of River Falls Field.

The Mustangs (3-0, 3-0) got things going right away. Parker Holmboe singled and pitcher Drew Rogers walked to open the game. Then, Tanner Hoemann got Mounds View on the board with a three-run home run to left field.

An inning later, Mounds View hit another ball over the left field fence. This time it was center fielder Jack Glancy, the No. 9 hitter in the Mustang order. His solo shot made it 4-0 through two innings of play.

Stillwater (1-1, 1-1) managed just one run on Friday despite a 14-run performance in the season opener on Thursday against Forest Lake. The Ponies scratched across their lone run of the game in the fourth inning on an RBI single from second baseman Luke Adams that plated Alex Van Dell. Adams finished the day 2-for-3 at the plate.

From there, Mounds View extended its lead with 4 runs in the seventh. Rogers finished the game off on the mound as he pitched a complete-game as he allowed just one run on four hits while striking out 10 in a winning effort.

Andrew Harris picked up the loss for Stillwater as he allowed four runs in four innings of work.
