And the winner is...MN Baseball Hub Top Performer revealed

Athletes are considered for the weekly top performer poll only if their stats are entered on the MN Baseball Hub by 10 a.m. on Sundays. If coaches or members of their staffs need access to enter stats, please email mnhubs@sportngin.com.


Top performer winner

Aaron Heger, Bemidji. The senior led the Lumberjacks at the plate and on the mound in the first game of a doubleheader at Rocori on April 27. Heger gave up three hits and three unearned runs through 5 1/3 innings, recording 10 strikeouts. He went 2-for-4 with a single and a home run, recording four RBIs and two runs scored. The Lumberjacks (8-0, 2-0) won 10-3.

Top performer candidates

Jordan Axberg, North Branch. The senior righthander recorded 15 strikeouts through seven innings on April 29 as the Vikings (5-2, 2-2) defeated Fridley 11-2. Axberg threw 90 pitches, allowing two runs — just one earned — and one walk on four hits. Axberg also recorded a team-high four RBIs, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored and a stolen base.

Evan Esch, Mounds Park Academy. The senior pitcher struck out 17 batters as the Panthers ended a four-game losing streak with a 2-1 victory at Blake on April 26. The Panthers (2-7, 2-7) avenged a 13-3 loss to Blake from two weeks earlier as Esch gave up one unearned run on three hits through seven innings on the mound.

Gavin Gust, Dover-Eyota. The sophomore produced just enough offense to push the Eagles (4-6, 3-3) over the top as they edged Southland 9-8 on April 29 after scoring four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Gust hit a double and a home run, tallying four RBIs to lead the Eagles' victory.

Gavin Zurn, Stillwater. The senior pitcher recorded his second scoreless game on the mound this season, giving up five hits and a walk while striking out seven batters through seven innings. Zurn threw 87 pitches as the Ponies (9-1, 9-1) defeated Mounds View 1-0 on April 28.
