Class 1A quarterfinals: Sacred Heart, New York Mills, Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg, BOLD advance

BOLD 4, Sebeka 2

Riley Weis hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally BOLD to victory in the Class 1A quarterfinals on Thursday at the Mini Met in Jordan.

The Warriors (18-5), the top seed, trailed 2-0 after 5 1/2 innings. Jordan Sagedahl’s RBI-single with one out pulled BOLD within 2-1. With two out and two on, Weis homered to right field.

Sebeka (18-8) put two baserunners on with two outs in the top of the seventh before reliever Hayden Tersteeg got the final out.

Sagedahl, a junior, was the winning pitcher. He allowed two runs and four hits in six innings. He struck out 11.
Mason Dalley and Tyce Lee each had two hits for Sebeka. Dalley and Lake drove in runs in Sebeka’s two-run fifth inning.

BOLD, making its first appearance at the state tournament since 2014, will play either Randolph or Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg in the semifinals on Friday.

Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg 10, Randolph 0

Freshman Alex Call pitched five shutout innings and was 3-for-3 with two RBIs to lead Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg past Randolph in the Class 1A quarterfinals at the Mini Met in Jordan.

The Saints (21-2), making their first appearance in the state tournament since 2000, broke open a scoreless game with eight runs in the top of the third inning. The Saints took advantage of seven hits and two errors in the inning.

Sophomore Isaac Call and junior Christian Diederich each had two hits and an RBI for the Saints, who will play top-seeded BOLD in the semifinals on Friday. Alex Call allowed just three hits and struck out five.

Randolph (21-3), making its first state tournament appearance, will play Sebeka in the consolation semifinals on Friday.


New York Mills 10, South Ridge 1

Second-seeded New York Mills pulled away for the Class 1A quarterfinal victory at the Mini Met in Jordan.

The Eagles (20-5), making their first state-tournament appearance since 2014, led 2-1 after five innings before putting the game out of reach by scoring eight runs in the sixth inning.

Dylan Fischer, who was 3-for-4, had a two-run single. Abe Carlson drove in two runs with a double to highlight the Eagles’ sixth inning.

Caden Roberts struck out seven and scattered six hits in the complete-game victory.

The Eagles will play either Sacred Heart or Hayfield in the semifinals on Friday.

Elias Tuominen had an RBI single for South Ridge (20-7), which will play either Sacred Heart or Hayfield in the consolation semifinals at Friday.

Sacred Heart 10, Hayfield 6

Sacred Heart broke a 2-2 tie with eight runs in its final two at-bats to defeat Hayfield in the Class 1A quarterfinals on Thursday at the Mini Met in Jordan.

Will Rohrich’s two-run home run gave Sacred Heart a 4-2 lead and the Eagles added two runs to take a 6-2 lead. Hayfield got one run back in the bottom of the sixth to make it 6-3, but the Eagles added four more runs in the seventh. Gage Wavra’s two-run single capped the inning.

Hayfield scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh but reliever Oscar Ortiz got the final out.

Cullen Rohrich was 3-for-4 with three RBIS for the Eagles (14-8). Brady Nelson (was 2-for-4 with an RBI for Hayfield.

Sacred Heart (14-8), getting its seventh consecutive victory, will play New York Mills in the semifinals on Friday.

Hayfield (22-3) will play South Ridge in the consolation semifinals on Friday.
