Duluth Marshall 4, Glencoe-Silver Lake 3

The No. 1-seeded Hilltoppers (24-1) took advantage of two errors and small-ball in a four-run second inning to take a lead they wouldn’t relinquish to win the opening game of the Class 2A quarterfinal at Dick Putz Field in St. Cloud.

Duluth Marshall had only two hits in the big inning but the errors helped extend the rally and give the Hilltoppers the lead.

The Panthers (19-6) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first against Hilltoppers starter Ben  Pedersen but couldn’t break through the rest of the game.

Pedersen pitched six innings to get the victory, recording 13 strikeouts and allowing four hits. Brett Benson retired all three batters he faced to get a save.

Paynesville 3, Perham 2

The No. 5-seeded Bulldogs (22-2) got a bases-loaded double from Luke Johnson to score three runs in the top of the third inning to help them slip by the No. 4 Yellowjackets (22-3).

Paynesville starter Grady Fuchs pitched all seven innings and earned the victory, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits while recording seven strikeouts.

Perham scored a run in the bottom of the seventh in a comeback attempt, but left the potential tying run stranded on third.

Paynesville will play Duluth Marshall at noon on Friday at Dick Putz Field in St. Cloud in the semifinals.

Minnehaha Academy 12, La Crescent-Hokah 5

The Redhawks (19-4) scored in every inning to power past the Lancers (21-6).

The No. 2-seeded Redhawks used five hits in the first inning to build a 4-0 lead. For the game, Minnehaha’s Dylan Kiratli and Brock Brumley each had three hits apiece to lead the Redhawks’ offense.

La Crescent-Hokah scored five runs in the next two innings and trailed just 6-5 heading into the bottom of the third. But Minnehaha Academy answered and pulled away with six unanswered runs in the next four innings.

The Redhawks outhit the Lancers 16-9. Brumley picked up the victory after throwing six innings, recording six strikeouts and allowing two earned runs.

St. Peter 11, Foley 3

With the score tied 1-1 after four innings, the Saints (20-5) exploded for six runs in the top of the fifth, en route to upsetting the No. 3 seed Falcons (24-4).

St. Peter's big inning had just three hits, but featured timely hitting, including Isaac Peterson’s two-run single to extend the Saints' lead. Peterson recorded two hits in the game, while Tyson Sowder led St. Peter with three hits and two RBI.

Foley scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth, but the Saints scored two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to thwart a comeback. St. Peter starter Andy Regner pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing three runs and getting seven strikeouts.
