Bottom of the order produces top-flight results in St. Thomas Academy victory

St. Thomas Academy pitcher Duke Coborn just needed a little support and he got it from the bottom of the order.

The Cadets' six through nine hitters produced three runs in the in the bottom of the fourth inning, and Coborn pitched the Cadets to a 3-1 victory over Little Falls on Thursday in the Class 3A quarterfinals at Siebert Field.

The senior right-hander allowed three hits while striking out 11 and walking four before being removed due to pitch count with two outs in the seventh. He struck out two in each of the first five innings. Left-handed senior Vincent Hubbell got the final out by strikeout.

“I was on my game,” said Coborn, who finished with a season-high 118 pitches. “But there is room for improvement like always.”

No. 8 hitter senior Charlie Berg opened the scoring for the Cadets (19-9) with a two-run double to the left-center field wall.
