Benilde-St. Margaret’s junior Blake Mahmood likes the big stage.

Mahmood, who has committed to Tulane, tossed a four-hitter in leading the Red Knights to a 3-1 victory over Marshall in the Class 3A quarterfinals Thursday at Siebert Field. Mahmood struck out 11 and didn’t walk a batter.

“It was a good performance, but not my best,” Mahmood said. He just returned to the Red Knights’ rotation a month ago after being sidelined at the start of the season with a stress fracture in his back. “I’m starting to get back in the flow.”

The Red Knights gave Mahmood a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Senior Evan Brown delivered a two-out single to center field to score classmate Harrison Shibley, who led off the game with a single.
