Pitching and defense, timely hitting and speed. Blaine has all of it going right now.

The Bengals tossed a shutout, surrendered no errors, got seven hits and they stole six bases to outmatch Northwest Suburban Conference rival Robbinsdale Armstrong for a 6-0 win on the road Tuesday.

For Blaine, No. 2 in the Class 4A Star Tribune metro rankings, the victory marks the team’s ninth straight victory.

Senior righthander Jack Haring earned the win on the mound, improving his record to 4-0 this season by throwing five innings of shutout ball in which he struck out five, and allowed two hits and three walks.

“Everything is working for us right now,” Haring said. “Our defense is solid, we’re hitting the cover off the ball, and our pitching is throwing a lot of strikes. Not many walks or freebies; make them earn it.”

Blaine (9-1, 7-1) led from the start. The first three Bengals batters reached safely, and then trouble compounded for Armstrong (7-5, 6-3) when its defense booted two errors, which led to the Falcons spotting the Bengals three runs in the top of the first inning.

First Report

Blaine made quick work of Northwest Suburban Conference foe Robbinsdale Armstrong on Tuesday evening, blanking the host Falcons for a 6-0 victory.

The Bengals (9-1, 7-1), No. 2 in the Star Tribune metro rankings from May 6, scored three runs in the top of the first inning and remained in control the entire way.

Senior righthander Jack Haring earned the win on the mound, improving his record to 4-0 this season by throwing five innings of shutout ball in which he struck out five, and allowed two hits and three walks.

At the plate, Tony Strand went two-for-four with a double and two runs scored, while Bryce Nelson stole four bases to drive the Bengals’ offense.

Armstrong (7-5, 6-3) got strong relief pitching from Travis Mosley, who threw the final two innings. Mosley allowed no runs, and surrendered just one hit while striking out four, but the deficit proved too great for the Falcons to turn things around.
