Foley vs. Albany

5 p.m., Tuesday, May 4

Granite Ridge Conference foes Foley and Albany meet Tuesday for a highly anticipated matchup between two of the top teams in Class 2A.

Foley (9-0, 5-0) has outscored opponents by an aggregate of 90-9 this spring. The closest game the No. 2-2A Falcons have played to date came on April 26, when they defeated Pierz 3-2.

Ryan Chmielewski threw all seven innings against Pierz, recording 11 strikeouts to go with the five hits and two runs he allowed. Foley followed that nail-biter by blowing out its next three opponents by a total of 38-2, but it’s nice to know the Falcons have pitching when they need it.

Albany (6-0, 4-0) has also been dominant, averaging 10 runs per game while giving up less than a run per contest.

Like Foley, the No. 1-2A Huskies also had a recent run-in with Pierz that proved to be one of their closest games of the season. Carter Thelen took the victory for Albany on April 29, tossing six innings of four-hit baseball in a 3-0 win.
