Wayzata vs.

St. Michael-Albertville

4:30 p.m., Friday, May 7

Both Wayzata and St. Michael-Albertville have left wreckage behind them in the Lake Conference this spring, as they’ve combined to go 8-0 in league play entering this week.

Wayzata, ranked No. 2 in the Class 4A coaches’ poll from April 28, began its Lake campaign on April 23 with a 4-1 defeat of Minnetonka. The Trojans (8-1, 3-0) have since vanquished Eden Prairie (9-2 on April 28) and Hopkins (5-4 on April 30).

Nick Argento, a Mr. Baseball candidate and North Carolina commit, fuels the Trojans' offense, along with Drew Berkland, Nick Gebhart and Joe Grochala. The quartet combined for eight hits in their blowout of Eden Prairie and will be called upon to try and power some runs past a stingy St. Michael-Albertville team this Friday.

St. Michael-Albertville (8-0, 5-0) has surrendered just four runs total in its five conference games to date. The No. 5-4A Knights are coming off an impressive week in which they defeated Hopkins in a 2-1 victory on April 26, and they followed that with a 8-0 triumph over No. 3-4A Buffalo two days later. On Friday, they capped the week with a 6-0 shutout of Minnetonka.

Pitcher Max Sutter has been key in keeping St. Michael-Albertville in the win column. He pitched seven innings against Hopkins, recording 10 strikeouts while surrendering just two hits and an earned run.

Eric Fouquette tallied five RBIs in the Knights’ victories a week ago, including four when he knocked a grand slam in the siege at Buffalo.
