Springfield vs.

New Ulm Cathedral

5 p.m., Tuesday, May 14

Springfield and New Ulm Cathedral have torn through the Tomahawk Conference this season, and they may be destined to meet again in the Class 1A, Section 2 playoffs.

The Tigers (14-2, 13-0) had a six-game winning streak snapped by a 1-0 loss to BOLD on Saturday. With just two games remaining in the regular season, Springfield aims to get back into the win column against their fiercest competition in Tomahawk play — New Ulm Cathedral.

Springfield topped New Ulm Cathedral 1-0 on April 9 with senior Mitchell Leonard driving in junior Mitchell Buerkle for the winning run. Leonard’s RBI was one of just three hits for Springfield, while New Ulm Cathedral tallied two hits.

New Ulm Cathedral (10-3, 9-2) has had its own run of recent success, winning seven straight games. Greyhounds senior Mark Schommer took the loss against Springfield after he gave up the game-winning run in the sixth inning.
