Luverne vs. Marshall

5:30 p.m., Thursday, May 17

Luverne brings the state's best record to the University of Minnesota on Thursday, when it faces Big South Conference foe Marshall at Siebert Field.

The Cardinals own a 15-0 overall record and a 10-0 league mark, but their gaudy record doesn't include any fluky victories. They've defeated opponents by nine or more runs 12 times and have 13 wins against section foes.

Luverne's lineup includes eight hitters with on-base percentages over .500, led by Declan Beers, who boasts a 1.368 on base-plus-slugging mark.

Marshall (9-3, 7-2) is arguably the toughest team on Luverne's schedule to date. The Tigers are the Cardinals' first Class 3A matchup of season, and they've won six of their last seven games with Isaac Schmitt providing an offensive spark.

In the Tigers' last three games, the junior went 8-for-9 with four doubles, a home run and nine RBI.
