Blaine (9-2, 5-1) has backed up last year's improbable run to the Class 4A state tournament by plowing through one of the state's toughest schedules this year.

Led by Reid Conlee's 1.307 OPS and Sam Riola's 0.79 ERA through 26 2/3 innings pitched, the No. 5-4A Bengals are on pace to surpass last year's 10 wins despite facing seven teams ranked in the coaches poll.

The Skippers (9-2) have played against three ranked opponents, with no contest more impressive than their the 9-2 drubbing of No. 1-4A and Lake Conference rival Wayzata on April 28. Aaron Brush went 4-for-4 with three RBI in the win, and continued his torrid play since. He's hit .500, knocked in eight runs, scored five times and moved up from eighth to third in the lineup.
