Blaine at Maple Grove
4:30 p.m., Thursday, April 21

The Crimson (1-1, 1-1) fell 6-3 in their season opener to Elk River, but bounced back with a 1-0 win over Champlin Park on April 14.

Junior Bubba Horton pitched a one-hit shutout for No. 4-4A Maple Grove. The Minnesota commit struck out seven batters, including two in the final inning, to preserve the Crimson’s first win of the season.

The Bengals (2-1, 2-1) picked up two victories last week, defeating Andover 3-1 and out-slugging Irondale 12-7 in extra innings.

Blaine dropped its season opener thanks to a walk-off hit from Robbinsdale Armstrong, and clearly didn’t want to give up another game in a similar manner. The Bengals combined for six runs in the top of the sixth and the seventh innings to tie the game, and rallied in the eighth by scoring another five runs to douse the Knights’ upset bid..

Senior Tyler Reichenborn was 3-for-3, hitting two doubles and driving in two runs while senior Cody Dorff was 2-for-3 for two doubles, two RBI and three runs scored.
