New Ulm Cathedral at Springfield
5 p.m., Tuesday, April 12

This Class 1A top-10 tilt is not only a rematch of last year's state semifinal, but also an ongoing rivalry in the Tomahawk Conference.

New Ulm Cathedral has reloaded and is ready for revenge after losing three one-run games to Springfield last year, including at state when Tigers senior Jaden Mickelson’s walk-off double drove in the game-winning run in a 6-5 victory.

With seven starters and three regulars in the bullpen returning, the No. 2-ranked Greyhounds are looking to improve upon their fourth-place finish at state last year.

Senior and Golden Gophers commit Gabe Knowles, who batted 5-for-10 in the state tournament last season, leads the lineup. Senior Michael Skillings is the veteran on the mound and will be throwing to senior Jack Schwartz.

Springfield shut out Comfrey/Cedar Mountain 9-0 on April 4 as the No. 1-ranked Tigers started the season 1-0.

Springfield won last year’s league title but shared the championship with New Ulm Cathedral two years ago.
