Mounds View at Woodbury
4:30 p.m., Friday, May 15

Until Mounds View lost a 11-10 slugfest to Irondale this past weekend, Woodbury had been the only team to beat the No. 1-3A Mustangs (15-2, 12-1) this year, beating them 7-5 in a Suburban East Conference game on April 24. The Royals (11-5, 9-4) rallied from an early 5-0 deficit by scoring all seven runs over the final three innings. Woodbury’s Jacob Dickmeyer struck out seven in an eight-inning outing.

The Mustangs' pitching staff has allowed more than two runs in a game just four times all season, so it looks as if Saturday’s defeat at Irondale was an aberration. Henry DeCaster leads the staff with a 4-0 record and 0.72 ERA, while both Charlie Callahan and Josh Gaworski are 3-0 and have a combined 32 strikeouts in 32 2/3 innings.

Since starting the year with four losses in six games, Woodbury has won nine of 10 to get back in the race (the only loss was a 1-0 defeat at Cretin-Derham Hall on May 1).

Brady Mundahl has hit a home run in two of the Royals' last three games.
