Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s at New Ulm Cathedral

The Tomahawk Conference race certainly could come down to the winner of this Monday night’s game between No. 5-1A Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s (9-2, 8-2) and No. 7-1A New Ulm Cathedral (5-3, 5-2), two of three teams (including Springfield) with two conference losses.

In their first head-to-head meeting just over a week ago, New Ulm Cathedral won 10-2 at Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s, despite striking out 12 times in 5 2/3 innings against Knights starter Kodan Kosak. 

Kasey Kuck struck out five in six innings to earn the pitching victory for the Greyhounds, while Collin Helget was 1-for-4 with two RBI and Michael Skillings was 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Lucas Heiderscheidt was 2-for-2 with a walk for Sleepy Eye St. Mary's, whose only two league losses were to Springfield and New Ulm Cathedral.

The Greyhounds fell to conference rivals Springfield and Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart.
