Lakeville South at Lakeville North
4:15 p.m., Wednesday, April 29

Speaking of intra-school district rivalries, here’s another that should make for some compelling baseball. Lakeville North hosts Lakeville South in a grudge match — and another potential state tournament preview game. How’s that? Well, both advanced to the state tournament last year, meeting in the third-place game won by the Panthers 12-4.

Despite winning just one of its first six games, this is a familiar start for Lakeville South (1-5, 1-4). Last year, the Cougars were just 2-17 in the regular season before their shocking playoff run.

While Lakeville South was expected to be improved this year, Lakeville North came into the year ranked No. 1 in Class 3A. But after opening the season looking like a champion, the No. 2-3A Panthers (5-3, 4-3) have lost three straight games, scoring only four runs. Joey Larson is hitting .409 and Angelo Altavilla is at .364 with two homers and six RBI, but no other regular is hitting over .301.
