Minnetonka at Eden Prairie
6:30 p.m., Friday, April 24

In opposition to the state rankings, the Lake Conference is a bit upside-down, with No. 18-3A Wayzata leading the way over its higher-ranked mates. Two of the programs hot on the Trojans' heels get together Friday night — and neither wants to fall to far back in the race for the conference title.

No. 8-3A Minnetonka (6-2, 1-1) is just a game behind Wayzata, while No. 4-3A Eden Prairie (2-2) has split its four games but is 1-0 in the conference after beating Hopkins 11-1 on April 15. Junior Jeff Athey led the way in that game, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. He’s a top slugging prospect who has committed to the University of Nebraska.

The Skippers also feature a top offensive power-hitting prospect in 6-foot-4 senior first baseman Josh Falk, who could challenge Sean Kommerstad’s school records for homers in a season (seven) and career (11) this spring.
