Kennedy keeps upset streak going

Class 3A, Section 6 Playoffs

BLOOMINGTON KENNEDY 14, BENILDE-ST. MARGARET’S 4 (5 INN.): After a 1-8 start, the Eagles (9-13) are playing better when it matters most. Kennedy has pulled back-to-back upsets in the playoffs, knocking off Minneapolis South on Thursday before stunning the No. 2-seeded Red Knights on Friday. Sophomore Arich Juberian homered for the second consecutive game, and junior Paul Baltes hit his first homer of the year to give junior pitcher Chad Allmann (3-5) plenty of run support. Joe Melles and Spencer Shaver hit homers for the Red Knights.

MINNEAPOLIS SOUTHWEST 7, EDINA 5: Trailing 5-2, the Lakers scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning to beat the Hornets at Braemar Park. Senior Armen Stromquist delivered the key hit with a two-out, two-run single. Southwest junior Nate Ferguson pitched 6 innings in relief for the victory.
