Tim Krahn practically grew up with St. Anthony hurler Nicho Roessler, so the Minnehaha Academy righthander knew from the start how tough his assignment would be.

Thankfully for the Red Hawks, he was more than up for the job. Krahn wove together a complete game masterpiece and led his undefeated team to its fifth victory, a 4-0 win over the Red Hawks’ conference rival at Neiman Sports Complex.

“Every day we play St. Anthony, it’s a big day… and it always is with Nicho,” Krahn said of the opposing ace, whom he’s played with or against since they were 14. “I’m always more excited to pitch against them.”

Roessler pitched a four-hit, complete-game gem of his own, but Minnehaha was able to capitalize on an error-laden fifth inning. Up by one after manufacturing a run from a passed ball, sacrifice fly and a line drive the shortstop was unable to handle, the Red Hawks grabbed three more in the fifth. Roessler hit one batter and the St. Anthony third baseman muffed two consecutive throws to first.

“We were fortunate … that was uncharacteristic of them,” co-coach Josh Thurow said.

“You’ve just got to take advantage when you get the opportunity.”

Krahn said after the insurance runs in the fifth, the dugout seemed to heave a collective sigh of relief.

“Once everybody settled in … things started to roll for us,” he said.

He was moving pretty smoothly, too. As the game went on, Krahn only seemed to heat up, facing just 13 batters in the final four innings. He struck out the last two batters to end the game.

“He’s outstanding,” Thurow said of the player he feels is a definite all-star. “If you get a guy that will throw a shutout for you,  you can’t lose right?”
