St. Michael-Albertville has a chance to finish the regular season with the best record in Minnesota, and Maple Grove has a chance to stop it.
If Waconia loses to Hutchinson on May 25 and if St. Cloud Tech drops two of its final five games set to be played in a four-day span this week, the Knights (17-1, 7-1), who are No. 5 in the coaches' Class 4A poll, could wind up with the best record in the state at 19-1.
In order to get there, they'll have to defeat St. Francis on Tuesday and then go through Class 4A, Section 8 rival Maple Grove two days later. A St. Michael-Albertville loss to the No. 14-4A Crimson may keep the Knights from not only forfeiting the top record in the state but also earning the top seed for the section tournament.
Maple Grove (12-5, 9-4) rattled off 10 straight wins between April 20 and May 9, logging key victories against No. 19-4A Osseo (5-0 on May 2) and No. 5-3A New Ulm (3-0 on May 6), but its toughest challenge remains.
St. Michael-Albertville's game at Maple Grove will finish the regular season for both teams, and with section seeding and the top record in Minnesota possibly on the line, this matchup is our Top Game of the Week.
