May 6: The Blaze and Lightning have only one blemish on their South Suburban Conference records heading into the week.

Last year, four teams in the ultracompetitive South Suburban Conference finish tied for second place in the league standings, and this season is shaping up to have an equally tight race for title as four teams ended April with no more than two conference losses.

Ranked No. 15 in Class 4A by Let's Play Baseball, Burnsville (8-1, 7-1) has won four in a row and secured a tie at the top of the league standings with Eastview after a 2-0 shutout against Rosemount on April 29.

The No. 10-4A Lightning (8-1, 7-1) are also riding a four-game winning streak in which they have outscored opponents 35-10.

Burnsville and Eastview each have three conference games leading up to the first of their two regular-season matchups.

Victories are hard to come by in the talent-filled South Suburban, but if the Blaze and Lightning can avoid a skid, Friday's contest could give the winner the leverage it needs to capture the South Suburban crown, making it our Top Game of the Week.
