Three senior Huskies have emerged as Andover baseball’s lead dogs this season.

Outfielder Nolan Hartmann, catcher Tristen Saulsbury and designated hitter Brent Sears combined to go 19-for-30 with five doubles, two triples, 10 RBI and seven runs scored. Their on-base percentage was a collective .652.

After losing its first game, Andover won four consecutive games.

Royal performances

Woodbury junior Max Meyer, a shortstop/pitcher, has made big plays from the mound and at the plate this spring, leading the Royals to a 6-0 start.

He opened the season with a five-inning performance in a 4-1 victory against Tartan. In five innings Meyer gave up no hits, struck out nine and walked one. He was also 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI in that game.

In Meyer’s next start, he threw a complete-game no-hitter in a 6-1 victory against defending Suburban East conference champion Mounds View. He struck out eight and did not issue a walk. He was also 3-for-4 in the game with two runs scored.

Worth noting

St. Croix Preparatory Academy senior Rowen McAllister became the Minnesota high school girls’ champion archer and state record holder. She scored 297 points, just three points shy of a perfect score.

Calvin Ciganik, a sophomore pole vaulter at Mounds View, cleared 15 feet at the recent Pony Classic. The mark reset the school’s varsity indoor vault record. Ciganik’s freshman record of 11 feet, 6 inches was tied by teammate Mike Louderback at the same meet.
