The weather forecast for Saturday, the original date for the games, calls for a chance of rain throughout the day.

High school baseball state championship games at Target Field have been moved to Monday because of the threat of rain on Saturday, when the games had been scheduled to be played.

The Minnesota State High School League said on Twitter and at tournament Web sites that the games will be played at the same times on Monday. The Class 1A game is scheduled to start at noon, the Class 2A game at 3 p.m. and the Class 3A game at 6 p.m.

The decision to postpone the games until Monday was made by high school league Associate Director Kevin Merkle after consulting with the Minnesota Twins organization. The league wanted to make the determination Friday to give participating teams the opportunity to make definite travel plans.

Dave Stead, high school league executive director, said, “The Twins have two different radar systems that both indicated that there will be rain on Saturday. It doesn’t make sense for the Twins to bring in a grounds crew for two days, and since the weather looks perfect on Monday, we made the decision to move all of the games to make it a championship day for each team.”

The state lacrosse championship games remain scheduled for Saturday at Chanhassen High School. The girls’ championship game between Eden Prairie and Blake is scheduled for 5 p.m. The boys’ game between Eden Prairie and Rosemount is set for 7 p.m.
