Benilde-St. Margaret's scored twice in the opening inning, added an insurance run in the sixth and held off Spring Lake Park in the seventh as the ninth-ranked Red Knights remained unbeaten with a 3-2 win.

After Mikey McGill's sacrifice fly plated Chris Racchini, and Keaton Studsrud scored on a wild pitch, BSM had a 2-0 lead, which looked like it would stand up for good behind the pitching of Jimmy Cron, who allowed just three hits over the first six innings.

The Red Knights scored an unearned run in the sixth inning when Michael Kaminski walked, advanced to second on Riley Crane's sacrifice bunt, took third on a passed ball and then scored on a balk.

The run would prove vital as the Panthers finally got to Cron in the seventh.

Luke Turnquist singled and Antonio Zepeda followed by drawing the only walk Cron allowed. Mason Price and pinch-hitter Eric Curran both singled to give the visitors their first run of the game and finish Cron for the game.

John Vecere came on in relief and immediately registered a strike out of Josh Rowe. Blake Luttman grounded out to drive in the Panthers' second run before Vecere induced Justin Webber into a popout to end the game.

Cron, who needed just 57 pitches to get through the first six innings, picked up his second win of the season, allowing two runs on six hits with a walk, hit batsmen and six strikeouts. Vecere, who has not allowed a run in four innings of relief work, picked up a save for his seventh-inning effort.

Studsrud had two of BSM's four hits, including the game's only double.

The Red Knights have a non-conference game scheduled with Edina, Saturday, beginning at 12 p.m. at Braemar Park, to open a stretch of six consecutive road games.
