Red Knights open 2014 with rout of Hylanders

John O'Connor had three hits and Michael Kaminski added a double and a triple to lead BSM's 15-hit attack in an 18-0, five-inning win at Columbia Heights.

The Red Knights sent 11 batters to the plate in the first inning as they plated eight runs, with Sam Lynch's two-run triple capping the outburst.

BSM would then score twice in each of the next three innings before posting four runs in the fifth inning to finish the scoring.

O'Connor was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI to lead the Red Knights' offense while Kaminski drove in a pair of runs with his two hits. Nathan Hanks, Jimmy Cron and Riley Simonetti also collected two hits while Tyler Wyvell had three RBI.

Mikey McGill was the recipient of the offensive support, picking up the win with a three-inning start on the mound. He allowed three hits while walking one and striking out two.

Connor Day allowed a hit and a walk while striking out two in the fourth inning and John Vecere closed out the game by working a 1-2-3 fifth inning.

BSM follows the victory with a pair of non-conference home games. Friday, the Red Knights host Hopkins at 4:15 p.m. followed by Saturday's 1 p.m. game versus Bloomington Jefferson, which is a makeup of last Saturday's scheduled contest at Bloomington's Dred Scott Field.
