Minnesota’s 2013 baseball Gatorade Player of the Year, Logan Shore, showed fans why he was worthy of such an honor during Friday night’s Class 3A Section 5 semifinal at Midway Stadium.

Just days after receiving the recognition, Coon Rapids righthanded senior pitcher struck out nine and gave up two runs on five hits in a complete-game 8-2 victory over Champlin Park to claim a spot in the section championship game.

Seven of Shore’s nine strikeouts were in the first three innings. He struck out the side twice and has completed both of his starts in the section tournament.

Anthony Mrosla and Jake Bruner’s RBI-singles gave Coon Rapids an early 4-0 lead through three innings. The Cardinals would add four more runs with the help of Alex Boxwell’s two-out, three-RBI double in the bottom of the sixth.

Champlin Park’s two runs came off a two-run home run by Daniel Kielb, who finished with a pair of hits.
