Kaminski leads BSM to victory over Holy Angels.

Michael Kaminski allowed just three hits and collected two himself to earn his first career win.

Michael Kaminski allowed just three hits in six and two-thirds innings of work and freshman Riley Simonetti went 3-for-3 in his first varsity start as Benilde-St. Margaret’s posted its second consecutive shutout with a 5-0 victory over Holy Angels.

Simonetti led an offense which collected 13 hits as five Red Knights collected multiple hit. The BSM rookie scored twice and added a double to his totals, helping to ignite a two-run second inning as he and Kaminski had back-to-back, one-out singles in front of Marshall Hoemke’s run-scoring double to drive in Colin Polarek, who was running for Kaminski.

Nathan Hanks then hit a slow roller to first base and Simonetti beat the throw home to give the Red Knights a 2-0 lead.

Another two-run inning in the fourth gave BSM a 4-0 lead as Simonetti ignited the rally with a one-out double. A walk to Hoemke set up Hanks’ RBI single through the right side and Dan Labosky followed with a RBI single to right field.

The Red Knights’ final run game in the fifth inning when Grant Besse took a 1-0 pitch over the left field fench for his first career home run.

Meanwhile, Kaminski worked through the Holy Angels with relative ease. He got into a jam in the third inning when a walk, a single and a wild pitch put runners on second and third before he induced cleanup hitter John Spannier into a fly out.

Kaminski would retired 11 of 12 batters at one point before a one-out double in the seventh inning by Jack Piram. After getting a strikeout, Kaminski would walk Tommy Sullivan and, with his pitch count at 111, BSM head coach Greg Hoemke made a pitching change, bringing in Labosky from left field.

The left-handed co-captain wasted little time in finishing the game, getting three consecutive called strikes to finish the game.

Not only did Labosky finish out the win on the mound, he added two hits and an RBI offensively. Kaminski also had two hits to raise his average to a team-best .404 on the season. Hoemke and Sam Lynch also had two hits and each doubled.

Kaminski’s final line score saw him with three hits allowed and three walks while striking out seven in collective his first varsity win.

Benilde-St. Margaret’s is scheduled to close out its regular season, Wednesday, with a 4 p.m. game versus Bloomington Jefferson.
