Eagles claim share of conference crown at expense of Red Knights.

Keaton Studsrud went 2-for-3 versus Totino-Grace, raising his average to .370, while driving in his team-leading 13th run of the season.

Totino-Grace got two home runs from Ben Peterson and a complete-game pitching effort from Seth Sullwold as the Eagles claimed sole possession of first place in the North Suburban Conference and clinched a share of the league title with an 8-2 win over Benilde-St. Margaret’s.

Despite the six-run win, Totino-Grace was outhit, 10-6 by the Red Knights, who jumped out a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Sam Lynch and Keaton Studsrud collected back-to-back one-out singles and Mikey McGill drove in the game’s first run with a two-strike, two-out base hit.

The Eagles took advantage of leadoff walks in each of the first three innings, which led to four runs, and then used errors to lead off the fourth and fifth innings, leading to one run in each frame, before Charles Miller opened the sixth inning with a double, leading to two more runs as the home team scored in each of its six at bats.

BSM put runners on base in six of its seven at bats but was unable to put together enough of their 10 hits at one time to produce more than their runs in the first and third innings.

In the third, Dan Labosky got a four-pitch walk to lead off the inning and moved to second on Lynch’s sacrifice bunt ahead of an RBI single by Studsurd, who collected his team-leading 13th RBI of the season.

Studsrud, who’s gone 6-for-9 over his last three games, was one of three Red Knights to collect two hits in the game. Labosky, who had the team’s only extra-base hit, a double to lead off the fifth inning, and McGill, who is 16-for-26 in his last eight games, also had a pair of hits.

Although falling out of first place with the loss, BSM still has a chance of sharing in the NSC title, needing a win Friday, when the Red Knights are at Irondale for a 4:15 p.m. game, and a Totino-Grace loss the same day in its game at Robbinsdale Cooper.

Two games next week will round out the Red Knights’ schedule. BSM will be at Holy Angels, Monday, in a 4:30 p.m. game before concluding the 2013 regular-season at home against Section 6AAA opponent Bloomington Jefferson, next Wednesday at 4 p.m.
