Mikey McGill led BSM to four conference wins last week as BSM looks to defend its North Suburban Conference crown.
Benilde-St. Margaret's junior pitcher/first basemen Mikey McGill was named the KARE11 TV prep athlete of the week and was named a metro area athlete of the week by both the Minneapolis StarTribune and the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
In seven games last week, the Red Knights went 5-2, including 4-0 in North Suburban Conference games, thanks in large part to the play of McGill.
He worked six innings in the first game of a doubleheader, last Monday, versus Chisago Lakes, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out six and not allowing a walk in a conference victory.
Friday. in another NSC games, versus Spring Lake Park, he went four innings and left with a 4-2 lead and, despite getting a no decision in the Red Nights' eventual 6-5, nine-inning win, also collected two hits and drove in the game-winning run when he drove a ball off the top of the fence in right-center field.
In all, he collected 13 hits in 24 at bats, driving in seven runs with a double and a home run while also driving in seven runs. On the mound, he allowed eight hits in 10 innings of work while walking four and fanning 10 batters, posting a 3.50 earned run average.
In a four-game stretch last week, he was 12-for-16 and he currently leads the team with a .426 batting average and a .500 on-base percentage.
